The beauty of being at The TaSH Farmers Market is that you never know who's going to walk up, what conversations will spark, or which story will fill your heart. This next "Off the Menu" request came from a joyful customer whose smile could have brightened even the cloudiest market morning.
She leaned in close to the table, glanced at our blends, and said gently:
"I don't like black pepper...but I love the mild texture and taste of white pepper."
And Chef - we were intrigued!
White pepper lovers are a special breed. Their flavor is delicate, warm, earthy...subtle but mighty.
This turned into one of those moments we call "Kitchen Talk".
You know the kind - where food opens the door to stories, laughter, and a little shared wisdom.
With sadness (and a tiny sigh), we had to tell her we didn't have whole white peppercorns at that exact moment.
But here's the twist - Sideways Kitchen doesn't close the book on a request.
We find a way to turn curiosity into possibility.
So we asked the magic question:
How would you like them?"
Her answer?
"Whole, please. I prefer to grind them fresh.
Chef, we LOVED that answer.
Whole spices, fresh grinding.
That's Sideways Kitchen energy right there.
When you can start with whole herbs and spices, the flavor stays fresher longer. The aroma hits you instantly. The food receives just the right amount of heat - not too much, not too little.
This customer didn't know what she liked.
She knew why she like it.
And she inspired us.
We told her we would take her contact information and notify her as soon as we sourced the "goods" - and we meant every word.
Because at Sideways Kitchen, the menu isn't fixed.
The flavor journey grows with every conversation, every question, every curious customer who steps up to our table and shares a little piece of their kitchen life with us.
Here's to the next amazing customer who walks our way, the next conversation that lights us up, and the next "Off the Menu" moment that becomes something beautiful.
Cheers from Sideways Kitchen! 🥂
Where every seasoning tells a story - especially the ones that weren't on the menu.
